Elizabeth Carmela Noonan (Checchia), 87, passed away peacefully on April 9, in Somerville, N.J. surrounded by family. Daughter of Michael and Norma Checchia, she was born December 30, 1930 in Orange, N.J. A graduate of East Orange High School she loved to play on the girls basketball and field hockey teams and always spoke of those experiences with a competitive gleam in her eye. Her primary vocation was that of loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid reader of mystery and suspense (Agatha Christie her favorite) and lover of classical music.
Preceded in death by her adoring husband Richard, with whom she celebrated 60 years of marriage, and grandson Christopher. Survived by her brother Fr. Joseph Checchia, her children Kathleen, Peter, Kevin, Shawn, Dennis and Brendan, and 13 grandchildren, Michael, Florinda, Patrick, Thomas, Luke, Daniel, Colin, Elena, Mae, Sarah, Cara, Timothy and Valerie.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, N.J. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Doctors Without Borders, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
