Theresa B. (Gatarz) Sweeney, 88, died, Tuesday, February 12th, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick.
Born in East Brunswick, Theresa graduated from South River High School, before marrying the love of her life and residing in Bridgewater for about the last 68 years. After sending her children to college, she went back to school and obtained a degree from Somerset County College. Theresa worked in the Bridgewater-Raritan School system for 31 years, most recently helping children with their future college & career selections in the Careers Resource Center. She received numerous awards for Outstanding Achievement issued by the school system
During her free time, she enjoy gardening and the company of her dogs.
She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph A. Sweeney Jr. and devoted mother of sons Joseph, Clark, Kevin, and Tim and daughter Barbara and daughter-in-laws, Janet & Penny. She was grandmother to Joseph, Lauren, Casey, Connor, & Patrick and great-grandmother to Amelia & Anne.
She is predeceased by her parents, Theofil and Mary; brothers, Paul, Frank Alexander, Ted, Chester, John, Stanley & infant Joseph and sisters, Annie (Sister Hortense), Veronica, Rose, Ann, & infant Mary.
Visitation will be from 2-4pm & 7-9pm on Friday, February 15, at the Cusick Funeral Home at 80 Mountain Ave, Somerville, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30am on Saturday, February 16, at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave., Somerville. Interment to follow at the church cemetery, Union Ave. (Route 28), Somerville. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Theresa B. Sweeney may be made to Leonard J. Buck Gardens, Somerset County Park Foundation, PO Box 5147, Branchburg, NJ 08876
