Robert P. Corcoran, 77, of Flemington, NJ passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Somerville, NJ, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Joseph Paul and Anna Mae Corcoran. He and his beloved wife, Nancy (Bonaduce) Corcoran were married on February 12, 1972.
Robert spent the majority of his professional career as a bank executive in Somerville, NJ. In 1990 he became a founder and President/Chief Executive Officer at Somerset Valley Bank, a de novo community bank in Somerset County. In July 2007, he retired from active employment and became a consultant to other banks through his own company, Mid-Atlantic Bankers. Bob was much loved by his dedicated employees, many of whom worked with him for decades. He was also a mentor, helping to cultivate successful banking executives and professionals by sharing his wisdom and knowledge.
Robert held many professional and community affiliations through the years including Member and past President/Board of Trustees of the 200 Club of Somerset County; Member of the Benevolent Order of Elks Lodge #1068; Member and Past Chairman/Board of Trustees of New Jersey Bankers Association; Past President/Board of Trustees of Somerset Valley Vocation and Technical School; Former Trustee of Somerset County Chamber of Commerce.
Robert won many awards as a result of his volunteer work, including Outstanding Volunteer, American Heart Association (1995); Outstanding Business Person, Somerset County Chamber of Commerce (1995); Outstanding Citizen of the Year, Somerset County Chamber of Commerce (2001).
Bob was a funny, generous, caring man who valued his family above all else. He was always ready with a joke, even trying to make his doctors and nurses smile during his final days. He loved the New York Jets and World Cup soccer, and was a licensed coach and Director of Greater Flemington Soccer Club for 4 years. Bob loved Brigantine beach, where he took his family for vacation every summer. He was an avid reader and loved his daily crossword puzzles. Bob was passionate about music fanatic and played the guitar and sang. He was an enlisted veteran of the United States Army.
In addition to his loving wife, Nancy, he is survived by his four sons, Brett and wife Diana of Boiling Springs, PA; Kevin and wife Belen of Clinton, NJ; Ryan of Flemington; Matthew of Neshanic Station; and daughter Jennifer (Corcoran) Johnson and husband Artie of Manville, NJ. He was a loving Pop Pop to Angela, Phillip, Grace, Ella, Shane, Polly, Aidan and Tyler. Bob is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Mary Sena and Gerty Bonaduce, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is predeceased by his sister Joan Newkirk and brother Walter Devlin, as well as his mother and father-in-law, Julia and Alfonso Bonaduce.
Visiting hours from 2pm-6pm on Sunday, August 20, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville. Funeral Service 11am on Monday, August 21, at the funeral home. Entombment to follow at St. Bernard Mausoleum, Bridgewater.
