Margaret Mary Mulrooney (née Sullivan) of Somerville, NJ passed away peacefully on the beautiful spring morning of April 22, 2020.

There will be a Memorial Mass on Saturday October 2, 2021 9:30am at Immaculate Conception Church, 35 Mountain Ave Somerville NJ 08876.

Margaret was born into a large Irish Catholic family on May 12, 1930. She grew up on a small farm in the village of Woodford, County Galway, Ireland. At 19 years old, she immigrated to New York City, arriving by ship. She came to live with her relatives, Nanny and Pop Williams, and navigated her new life in the big city. She was eager to learn and completed her high school diploma through the night school program at Erasmus High School in Brooklyn, NY. Margaret found places in Brooklyn and the Catskills that had Irish dancing, one of her favorite pastimes. It was through this passion that she found the love of her life, Joe Mulrooney. Later, they were married on October 1, 1955 and spent 63 more happy years together. Their commitment, love, and devotion to family helped them raise four beautiful children in Somerville.

We will always remember her easy laughter, loving smile, and the twinkle in her eye as she shared many colorful memories from her life. Margaret loved to be outdoors gardening, taking afternoon walks, and spending time with animals. Even as she lived with progressing dementia over the past few years, being outside always brought a sense of serenity to Margaret.

Margaret lived her life with a strong faith and special devotion to the Blessed Mother. She found great solace in prayer and shared her faith with all who knew her.

Our family takes comfort knowing that Margaret is now resting in peace with her husband Joe, all of her siblings, parents, cousin Nora, good friend Kay, and numerous others whom we imagine her reuniting with in heaven.
Margaret is survived by her son Patrick and his wife Elaine, daughter Anne and her husband Dave, daughter Cathy and her husband John, son Charlie and his wife Maryann, her grandchildren, Molly and her husband Reid, Patrick and his fiancé Yanelis, Brianna, Megan, Chip, Claire, and her great-grandson Ellis.

In remembrance of Margaret, and in lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Samaritan Homeless Interim Program (SHIP), 87 E High St, Somerville, NJ 08876 (or http://ship908.com/ ).

Margaret was interred in April 2020 next to her husband Joe at the Somerset Hills Memorial Park in Basking Ridge, NJ.
We invite you to remember Margaret fondly for the wonderful woman we were blessed to have known as Mom, Grandma, Aunt Margaret, and friend.

In the words of one of her favorite songs:
When Irish eyes are smiling,
Sure, 'tis like the morn in Spring.
In the lilt of Irish laughter,
You can hear the angels sing...

With profound sadness we announce the passing of Mary Hollod, nurturing mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother, devoted sister, and respected friend. Mary passed away peacefully at age 99 on September 7, 2021, surrounded by family, and rejoins her husband George and son Dennis in heaven.

Mary was born to Andrew and Mary (Baran) Sekera in Bracovce, Czechoslovakia (now Slovakia), on December 25, 1921 (she shares her birthday with her father), and soon moved to Smolnik, Poland. She immigrated to the United States in 1929 and settled with her parents in McAdoo, PA, where she and her three younger sisters, Catherine, Jean, and Dorothy, were raised. Mary graduated from McAdoo High School in 1941. She always spoke fondly of her time playing the clarinet and saxophone in the high school marching band, All-State Band, and an all-girl band ensemble.

Mary met George Hollod at a church dance and, after his military service in World War II, the two were married in May 1947. The couple eventually moved to Bridgewater, NJ, where they raised their son, Dennis, and their daughter, Diane, and where Mary lived the remaining years of her life.

Mary was a longstanding parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Manville NJ, and a beloved and admired member of the Somerset County Single Senior Women’s Group. She was a talented seamstress, learning to make her own clothes as a child and then translating this into a career later in life. She had a life-long love of fashion and possessed an amazing sense of style and class. Among family and friends, she is also well-known for her beautiful, crocheted blankets.
Mary lived an active life for all 99 of her years, finding joy in dancing, dining out, and shopping, and she was never one to miss a party! She was also an avid traveler who appreciated the beauty and culture of new places around the world. Most recently, in the year of her 90th birthday, she enjoyed a return visit to her birthplace in eastern Europe, where she recalled the historic geography and visited the Church in which she was baptized. She was always deeply connected to her Ukrainian heritage, which she passed on to all of her family through food—most notably, her delicious homemade pierogi, babalki, mushroom soup, and sauerkraut!

More than anything, Mary loved to be surrounded by family and friends and could be counted on to bring a smile to the faces of all who encountered her. She treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved her role as Grandma and Baba to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary’s warmth and vivacious personality were contagious, and her positivity and charm were to be admired—and perhaps the secret to her long, fulfilled life.

Mary is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Anthony Crupi; daughter-in-law Dorothea Hollod; grandchildren, Kristine Gibson (Chris), Timothy Hollod (Laura), Steven Hollod (Ruth), Kimberly Crupi Dobbins, and Anthony Crupi (Lori); grandchildren, Alexa and Brianna Gibson and Eli and Serena Crupi; and sisters Jean Velten, Catherine Green, and Dorothy Opilla. She is predeceased by her husband, George (1968) and son, Dennis (2013).
Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:30am on Saturday, September 11, at St. Mary Byzantine Church, 1900 Brooks Blvd., Hillsborough, NJ. Interment to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, River Rd., Manville/Hillsborough

Raymond Stanley Peters, 82, of Belvidere, NJ, passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 8, 2021.

Ray was born March 8, 1939 in Somerville NJ to Wanda and Stanley Peters in Somerville, NJ and raised in Manville, NJ with his younger brother, Ron. His love of animals, science, and the outdoors led him to study animal husbandry at The National Farm School in Doylestown, PA (Delaware Valley University) after graduating from Dunellen High School. Ray further earned a Master’s Degree in Education at Trenton State College, while serving in the United States Army Reserve from 1963-1969.

Ray shared his passion and knowledge of science in the most honorable way a person can, as an educator. He spent over 30 years as a science teacher in the Bridgewater-Raritan School District. He spent most of those years teaching high school students at Bridgewater-Raritan West High School.

Ray met the love of his life, Rosemarie Lipoma, in 1962 and they wed in January 1965. Together, they raised two children, Jason, and Meredith, in Neshanic NJ and spent 57 extraordinary and adventurous years together as a loving couple.

Every summer, Ray would hitch up his travel trailer and take the family camping in New England, stopping at every antique shop along the way for his wife, Rosemarie. Ray planned a cross country adventure one summer for his family, creating some of the best memories that Rosemarie, Meredith and Jason still reminisce about.

Ray was a highly skilled craftsman and could design, and build, anything he imagined. His skills and business acumen built a thriving horse trailer repair business, “Stan-Raye Trailers”. He spent his evenings, weekends, and summers working on horse trailers for his extensive and loyal customer base. His son, Jason, picked up his building and mechanical skills from his father while working along side of him.

Ray passed down his love of horses to his daughter, Meredith. He spent countless hours shuttling Meredith and her horse to shows around the state. He was also a rodeo fan and would often pack up his family on a Saturday night for the two-hour drive to Cowtown Rodeo in Woodstown, NJ.

Ray was a passionate fly fisherman and could often be found in the streams of Pulaski, NY, with his best friend, Steve Selody. Ray enjoyed tying flies and opened a small fly-tying business called Ray’s Fly Shop when he was just a teen.

Everyone knew Ray as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend, who shared his passions with all throughout his life.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Wanda, and Stanley Peters. Ann Clare Faxon, 90, of Branchburg, formerly of Somerville, passed from this life on Tuesday November 9, 2021 at home with her children by her side. Despite her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Ann always had a smile for everyone she met, she never lost her devilish sense of humor or her engaging personality in which she had the genuine ability of making you feel as if you were the only person in the room.  Ann was born in Elizabeth, NJ on August 6, 1931.  She was one of thirteen children born to Joseph Tierney and Alice (Grimes) and she had a nickname for herself which was Tierney9.  She met and married George S Faxon and they lived in Elizabeth until settling in Somerville in 1962 where they raised six children.

Ann’s love of books and reading attracted her to a lifelong career as a librarian and in fact, she would often volunteer in the library of the Immaculate Conception grammar school when her children were students there.  For over 31 years, she was a librarian and Executive Assistant for the Bound Brook Memorial Library.  Long before the internet when her children were attending school and were required to complete a school report or specific information, she was referred to as their “Secret Weapon” as Ann would gather and bring home endless data and information on any subject they were tasked with at school.  She was rarely found without a book in her hand and if you had an interest in a subject she would surprise you with a wealth of information for you explore and gain more knowledge of the subject.  Throughout her life, she never put her own needs before anyone else’s and especially those of her six children whom she adored and in return, loved her completely. Ann was known as the fun Mom and would often take her daughters and her nieces camping while always stopping to explore any historical marker along the way.   Her motto throughout her life was ‘never complain and never explain’ and she lived her life by this mantra. In reflection, Ann did just that, as she always had a calm about her, never raising her voice and had a pure heart as she never complained or talked bad about anyone or anything. She did not have to, as she said she saw everything because she had eyes on the back of her head. Somehow, some way, she always knew everything!  She simply was a magical wonderful woman and mother.

Ann is survived by five children, six grandchildren and two sisters; Lynn and Anthony Sausto and their daughter Elizabeth; grandson Nicolas Faxon whose father Jeffrey Faxon predeceased his mother in 2003; George Faxon; Lisa and Louis Intili and their children Michael and Annie; Amy and Kevin Walter; Ann and Daniel Adams and their two sons, Jacob and Samuel and her little dog Sparky who never left her side. Her two wonderful sisters, Margaret Africano of Ocean Grove and Carol Tierney of Hillsborough whom Ann loved dearly.  She was also predeceased by her loving husband, George in 1999.
All who loved and cherished her will always remember her love for life, sense of adventure, her sharp and quick wit, grace, charm and unwavering faith in God.

Family and friends are welcome to her visitation, which will be held from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm Saturday November 13, 2021 at The Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Avenue, Somerville, NJ.  A Mass of Christina Burial will follow at 12:30 pm at Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville.  Interment will be private in Danby, Vermont.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the compassionate and amazing Stein Hospice, 354 Demott Lane, Somerset, NJ, 08873 or call 732-227-1212.
