Thelma L. Krehely of Somerville, New Jersey, passed away on August 12 at the age of 97 (2/11/1924–8/12/2021).
Thelma excelled at many things during her long lifetime. She was an accomplished seamstress who created coats and dresses for her young daughters. She knitted and crocheted gifts of shawls, afghans, and doilies for family and many friends. Many got to enjoy her culinary skills, especially her international cuisine, chiffon cakes, and decorative holiday cookies.
Thelma was also an avid lover of classical music and enjoyed going to concerts. She sang for many years in the choir at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Raritan, New Jersey.
Additionally, Thelma was a career woman, working for private doctors as a medical secretary for over 50 years. She worked for Robert C. Wilson for 31 years and was beloved among their patients for her warm smile and kind greetings.
She is predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Peter P. Krehely. Born in Somerville, New Jersey, she was also predeceased by her parents, Frederick J. Becker and Freda F. Becker. She leaves behind two daughters, Patricia Ann Estin of Somerville, NJ, and Colleen E. Krehely of Frederick, MD. Also, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, including Martin (and Vickie) Weaver of Oklahoma, Robert (and Ginger) Weaver of Virginia, Carol Ann (and Dennis) Thompson of New Jersey, and Lynwood H. (and Stephanie) Kipp of Wisconsin.
Visiting hours will take place at Cusick Funeral Home, 80 Mountain Ave., Somerville, NJ 08876, on Monday, August 16, 4–6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 17, at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 16 East Somerset St., Raritan, NJ 08869.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Oncology Patient Assistance Fund at Steeplechase Cancer Center.
